Broward County Library is pleased to present Education by Design as a modest contribution to historical research on the Works Progress Administration (WPA). We are sharing these images from our unique collection of WPA Museum Extension Project (MEP) objects in the hope of educating the public and providing resources for scholars and collectors on this little-known, but historically significant WPA program. This website represents the first time that information related to the MEP has a centralized home on the Net.
Four overall types of information resources are presented on Education by Design:
- Contemporary historical commentary, bibliography, and annotated links related to the WPA and the MEP.
- Texts of historical documents from the WPA and the MEP viewable as re-keyed text on pages throughout this website, or as scanned pages in PDF or JPG formats.
- A searchable image database consisting of over 700 images and their records.
- Information pertaining to the digitization process, IMLS grant, specifications, a survey, and rights/restrictions information.
The main navigation menu appears on the left side of each page and is linked to pages based on the above categories.
Throughout the website, you'll find clickable images from the Collection which will take you a larger image inside the searchable image database powered by the CONTENTdm collection management software. If the individual item is part of a larger series or sub-series (which most are), you will see a clickable list of titles of other items that are also part of that series/sub-series. You can also click on the link "page description" above the image to get a detailed metadata record about the item you are viewing. Clicking on "doc description" will give you a metadata record for the whole series/sub-series.
At any point inside the CONTENTdm image database, click "home" to return to the Education by Design start page. You may also use your browser's "back" button to return to your previous page. |
